One of South Australia’s premier race days, the Unley Telstra Show Super Sunday, lights up the Allan Scott Park Morphettville track this Sunday with the $100,000 Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m) one of the great races scheduled for the meeting.
The 2010 Darley Auraria Stakes will be a thrilling showdown between 16 of the most exciting three-year-old fillies including the unbeaten Hearts And Arrows.
Trained by Cranbourne-based mentor Michael Kent, Hearts And Arrows is a beautiful black filly by Kempinsky who has won both of her career starts, stepping up in distance both times as she will have to do again on Sunday.
Hearts And Arrows has drawn ideally on the rails with barrier one and will have champion jockey Glen Boss, who has been aboard for her previous two wins, in the mount again giving her every chance to maintain her unbeaten record.
Hearts And Arrows will face some quality competition in the Auraria Stakes including the John P Thompson-trained Legislature also drawn well in barrier four.
In her last start the More Than Ready filly ran an eye-catching fourth to Danaupair Starlet in the Group 3 South Australian Oaks (2400m) and will enjoy the 600m drop back in distance of the Auraria on Sunday, making her a very dangerous rival.
Other top fillies with claims on Sunday include the Mark Kavanagh-trained daughter of Zabeel Zantelagh (barrier 11), Peter Moody’s High Chaparral filly Fairy Oak (barrier six), and two from the stables of David Hayes Custard and Lannaki both drawn wide in barriers 10 and 12 respectively.
The Auraria Stakes runs early on as race three and will be proceeded by a range of other terrific events including the $300,000 Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m) and the $300,000 Group 1 Goodwood (1200m).
