There are some very exciting races taking place at Morphettville racecourse this weekend. The 2014 South Australian Derby will kick off with style, being the second-last Group 1 race in the South Australian racing season. With a total purse of $500,000, this lucrative race has attracted a number of top-class contenders. Included in the nominations are horses from trainers such as Peter Moody, Anthony Cummings, David Hayes, Gai Waterhouse and a number of other renowned names.

Possibly the most anticipated staying event in South Australia, the Group 1 SA Derby always draws a massive crowd and large punting volumes. When markets open this week we can expect to see considerable activity around some of the more likely horses, such as VRC St Leger winner Order Of The Sun, gelding Kushadasi and Anthony Cummings’ Best Case.

Although the SA Derby hasn’t attracted the extreme calibre of outstanding horses that it has in years past, it will still be a very exciting race. Particularly for punters, the 2014 SA Derby should grant plenty of opportunity for entertainment.

Also on the same racecard is the Group 2 Euclase Classic, worth $200,000 in 2014. One of the more highly awaited sprint events in Adelaide, the Euclase Classic usually draws a great field. A very intense race right down to the post, this year we can expect some considerable betting action. With the Adelaide racing season drawing to a close, punters and racing fans alike will be eager to check out the 2014 Euclase Classic.

Also at the Morphettville races this weekend is the Listed Adelaide Guineas, also a 3 year old set weight event. Worth $80,000, the 2014 Adelaide Guineas has attracted a huge amount of local talent to the field. If you’re at the tracks, watch this one for an outstanding finish.
