While the Brisbane Racing Carnival kicks off up north with the BTC Cup Day, Adelaide locals will be flocking to the tracks to view a packed race card.
There is a massive day of racing this Saturday at Morphettville Racecourse. This weekend is Goodwood Handicap Day, the last major day of racing in South Australia before the winter sets in. The main race on the day will be the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap (1200m), one of the most anticipated set weights with penalties sprints on the Australian racing calendar.
Also on the race card this weekend is the Group 3 South Australia Fillies Classic (2500m), a massive race for three-year-old fillies at set weights which draws some of the best talent from across Australia.
Beyond that, there are three other Group 3 races: The Jansz (1200m), the RA Lee Stakes (1600m) and the Proud Miss Stakes (1200m).
We can expect the weather this weekend to be a little wet, with a fair chance of rain on Saturday morning. However, it should stay fairly warm. Unfortunately there is also a good chance of rain on Friday, so the track might get a bit heavy. It’s currently rated Dead 5, so make your picks accordingly. The Goodwood Handicap is the second last race on the card, followed by the Proud Miss Stakes. Definitely take into account the state of the turf if there’s been a bit of rain over Friday night.
Also running on the day are three Listed races; the Centaurea Stakes (1200m), the Laelia Stakes (1600m), and the Port Adelaide Stakes (2500m).
