With three horses having already been scratched from the feature race’s final field, just nine runners till contest the Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at South Australia’s Morphettville Racecourse this weekend, offering punters exceptional value from a betting point of view and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.
Aiming for a third consecutive race win in the 2014 Lightning Stakes, Buddy Bundy has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite for success, cutting in from opening odds of $3.20 to currently register as clear $2.70 market mover, ahead of Cautious ($3.80), Killcareless ($7) and Ship’s Captain ($8.50).
Will Buddy Bundy justify punters’ support and win the 2014 Lightning Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Returning to the track in scintillating form this campaign, Robert Smerdon-trained Cautious arguably offers punters the best value for money for success in the 2014 Lightning Stakes at current $3.80 odds. Securing back-to-back victories in the Join As A Member Plate (1000m) and King Of Speed Handicap (900m) first-up this season, the Lonhro filly is unlucky not to be carrying winning form into the Lightning Stakes, having finished second when blocked for a run in the final straight of the Grand Hotel Frankston Handicap (1000m) last time out on June 18th. Allocated the ideal barrier 4 for the Lightning Stakes, Smerdon is confident the Morphettville track will play into the strengths of Cautious this weekend.
Buddy Bundy ($2.70)
Aiming for a third consecutive victory in the 2014 Lightning Stakes, Buddy Bundy has been allocated the ideal barrier 1 and is more than worth consideration for a wager for success at current odds. Finishing outside the places just once in his racing career, the Al Maher gelding will contest a Listed event for this first time this weekend but has more than earned his favouritism via comfortable wins in the Leader Computers 3.y.o (1050m) and Tapestry Wines 3.y.o (1000m) most recently. Confirmed to be partnered by leading South Australian jockey Dom Tourneur, Buddy Bundy is an excellent chance of victory in the Lightning Stakes.
Cash Is Coming ($17)
Interesting one of just two runners (along with Buddy Bundy) to be carrying winning form into the 2014 Lightning Stakes, Cash is Coming will without doubt face her biggest test to date this weekend but has proven ability over both course and distance to boot. Claiming a total of four wins and three minor places from just 15 competitive starts so far, Cash Is Coming is likely to receive the run of the race from barrier 2, and has been confirmed to be partnered by retaining jockey Ron Stewart.
